Fix that Flat: Common Sense Tips for Using a Tire Jack

When you need to jack your car up to change a tire, it may not always be under ideal conditions. Regardless of whether you're on the side of a highway or in the relative comfort of your own garage, the process of lifting a vehicle weighing thousands of pounds entails some risk. By following a few simple procedures, you can minimize any hazards to yourself and your vehicle.

Know Your Jack Most vehicles come equipped with a small scissor jack. This jack will be functional enough for an emergency tire-change on the roadside. Before you're in an emergency situation, familiarize yourself with your specific jack and how it works.

Secure the Area When possible, ensure that vehicle is parked on a level surface. Make sure that the car is secure. The emergency brake should be firmly set. Vehicles with automatic transmissions should be in "park," while ones with manual transmissions should be left in gear. Wedge bricks or blocks to the front and back of the tire on a diagonal from the tire to be lifted.

Pick Your Battleground Determine an appropriate place to set the jack. A common novice mistake is to set the jack under a bumper or body panel. These areas aren't designed to hold the weight of the entire car; they can break under the strain and allow the car to fall. The jack must go under the vehicle's frame, otherwise known as the chassis. Most cars are designed with a specific location for jack placement. When in doubt, check your owner's manual.

Keep it Steady Make sure that the jack is placed on a stable, even surface. If the ground is rough or covered with gravel, place a broad, sturdy board underneath the jack. This is especially important with small, factory-provided tire jacks, which may very have narrow bases.

Proceed with Caution Crank the jack up slowly. Although you may be in a hurry, take your time. Be careful to not have any part of your body underneath the car, so as not to be injured if the vehicle should fall. Once the car is lifted enough for the tire to clear the ground, push on it a bit to verify its stability on the jack.

Lower the Vehicle Now that the tire has been changed, bring the car back down just as you jacked it up: slowly and with care.

Once again, no part of your body (or anyone else's) should be underneath the vehicle. If there are other people present or assisting, have them step back away from the car and out of the way. Finally, remove the blocks from the chocked wheel.

By working at an even pace and using common sense, you should be able to raise a vehicle, change its tire, and lower it again safely. Keep in mind that these instructions only apply to lift a car to change a tire, not to any kind of repair work that requires you to get underneath the car; for that, further precautions will be necessary.

Easier Car steering with a Mazda Steering Rack

Maneuvering a vehicle is not a simple procedure. For one, various parts are involved in steering an automobile toward a desired direction. One of the parts responsible for effective steering is the steering rack.

There are two common types of car steering systems utilized by a number of automakers, including Mazda -- rack-and-pinion and re-circulating-ball steering. Of these types, the rack-and-pinion is the one mostly employed by the automakers for cars and small trucks/SUVs. A rack-and-pinion gear set is enclosed in a metal tube, with each end of the rack jutting from the tube. A component known as tie rod connects to each end of the rack. The mechanism of this type of steering is quite simple. Attached to the steering shaft is the pinion gear. Whenever the steering wheel is turned, the gear spins and moves the Mazda Steering Rack. The tie rod located at the rack connects to the steering arm on the spindle. This type works to convert the rotational motion of steering wheel needed to turn the wheels. The resultant gear reduction also makes turning the wheels easier.

For the wheels to turn from lock to lock (far left to far right), the steering wheel has to make at least three to four revolution. Lighter vehicles, like the ones Mazda manufactures, carry a relatively lower steering ratio than the heavier trucks and other utility vehicles. A lower ratio means a driver needs not to turn the steering wheel as much to get the wheels to go to a desired direction. This quality is most useful in sports cars because of its quicker response.

More than just a simple flip of the steering wheel, there are actually a lot going on inside a steering system, enabling a vehicle to turn as desired. The Mazda steering rack has proven to be a key to this mechanism.

Tips On Buying a Used Luxury Vehicle
By autoblog, 09:54

Most people automatically think they can't afford the luxury vehicle that they really want, but, with a little research, they might be pleasantly surprised. Used luxury cars, trucks, and SUVs are often well-taken care of by their owners, and often have the added benefit of being road-tested and already "broken-in." Often, a used luxury car is more preferable to a shopper than a brand new one.

Luxury autos are built to provide greater comfort, a smoother ride, and offer more amenities than other cars. And did you know that luxury automobiles are often equipped with more comprehensive safety features?

If you are a parent, you obviously know the importance of ensuring your child or children have a safe and reliable means of transportation. Most luxury vehicles you examine will more than likely have a high safety rating--feel free to compare ratings between luxury and non-luxury autos to verify this fact.

Luxury autos typically depreciate more quickly than non-luxury vehicles, and this can make the purchase of a used luxury vehicle all the more attractive. With a little diligence, you'll likely be able to find the luxury vehicle you desire at an affordable price. Repairs and maintenance, however, are more costly for luxury vehicles. And you must also take into consideration the higher cost of insurance as well.

It is also important to make sure you have the time to give your used luxury car the care and attention it deserves. It is important that you always change your oil at the correct times and that the oil is of a premium variety. You will probably need to pay a bit more for gasoline as well, since most luxury cars are designed to run on premium gas. Proper care and maintenance is essential to ensuring you are able to enjoy all your luxury vehicle has to offer for years to come.

To find the one that is most reasonable for you or your family, you should research all the different types of luxury vehicles. Find a vehicle you can afford, if you know you will be required to spend extra in maintenance and repairs.

Once you have located a luxury auto that you are interested in purchasing, the first thing you should acquire is a report of the car's history. Just because it's a luxury car, this does not always mean that it was well taken care of. Bad previous owners can be found within the luxury auto market as well. Whether or not the used auto you are examining was well looked after depends on the person who owned it before.

To find out how many people previously owned the vehicle and for how long, as well as repair and accident data, you should get a car history report. This can not only tell you whether the car has been involved in any accidents, but also whether any other catastrophic problems, such as flooding, have occurred. This is important because, even if the car has yet to show problems, you could experience some shortly after you buy it.

And don't forget to check insurance quotes on your used luxury auto. Factoring in these often-overlooked expenses will give you a more realistic appraisal of your costs for a new vehicle. Knowing in advance what you are able to afford for both the vehicle payment and insurance coverage allows you to streamline your car shopping experience. Following these suggestions will help guarantee you find the best luxury used auto for you.

The Ultimate Mustang Exhaust for a Ford Mustang
By autoblog, 00:53

The Ultimate Mustang Exhaust for a Ford Mustang

The The Ford F250 Mustang Exhaust came under the public's eye in 1964. And unlike other makes and models debuting during the recession following the 1950's, this hot rod successfully managed to capture the attention and whims of a considerable number of American consumers--attention that has allowed its name to stay in the market up to this day.Of course, its success did not happen overnight.

More than four decades of sustained engineering research that went to it, the Ford Mustang has been undergoing several modifications in its design to keep pace with the changes happening to the world at large. Keeping up with the times and hitting on the right look was as essential as providing consumers with the kind of Ford Mustang that would deliver what it promised. But the basic idea remained untouched.

And after 43 years from the day it was first introduced to the automotive world, the Ford Mustang has become a classic. If you drive a Ford Mustang, you understand what this means. And as with all things from Ford, the Ford Mustang surely does not stint on its parts. This means that only the best parts, from the screws to the wheels, from the door handle to the exhaust system, go into a Ford Mustang. Among the many alterations applied to the Ford Mustang, one cannot help but zero in on the improvements to its exhaust system.

Like most automotive companies that adjust their designs to align with the tenets of green technology, Ford has been seen fit to equip its Ford Mustang 2005-2006 with the Flowmaster Exhaust System. The result is not only a machine that performs better, drives faster, and lasts longer--but one that also cares for the world we inhabit. The Flowmaster Exhaust System certainly delivers on that.

Why so much fuss on Mustang Exhaust systems? It's a matter of striking a balance between thriving on details and getting the big picture. A Mustang exhaust that endures and performs maximizes the power of the engine, perks it up so that the car's performance is greatly enhanced. It does not stop there.

A Mustang that runs with a great exhaust system, in turn, is also a good thing for the environment and for everyone else living and breathing on the planet. But of course, it's always a good thing when a way is found to avoid adding harmful gases to the earth's already burdened atmosphere. From Mustang exhaust systems that work to the level of pollution we inhale, the connection exists. It reminds us that we do not have to march down the streets in protest against the latest logging violations that have our forests drying up.

Taking care of the world doesn't often require big, whooping steps and flashy speeches that get your face splashed in the media for a day or two. The small ones--like choosing a better Mustang exhaust system--can help as well. In a time where a lot of things just get smaller and smaller--from snazzy phones, point and shoot cameras to compact computers to mini mini water bottles, you'd think we'd remember that more often.

David works at an advertising firm as a copywriter and has a fondness for old car posters and ads.Knowing how important having the right mustang exhaust is, David only buys his from reliable sites like Speedyperformanceparts.

2007 Defender Boasts Comprehensive Improvements
By autoblog, 20:42

Boost sexual Power and Performance!

2007 Defender Boasts Comprehensive Improvements

Rover has initiated evolutionary improvements to its vehicle lineup. The recent beneficiary of said improvements is Rover Defender. 2007 Defender is given comprehensive enhancements to boost functionality, durability and versatility.

2007 Land Rover Defender parts were enhanced to improve driveability, torque and driving feel. It was given a new 2.4-litre diesel engine, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system, improved ergonomics, upgraded sound insulation, and new fascia. However, Defender has retained its wheelbase architecture which includes 90, 110 and 130 wheelbase versions supporting a wide range of bespoke derivatives. Speaker installation for enhanced sound quality and reproduction was also done. Further, an auxiliary/MP3 audio input socket is also offered by the new Defender.

Land Rover managing director Phil Popham said, "We're building on Defender's success with a package of improvements that will extend its off-road abilities even further, while transforming on-road refinement and comfort. These changes represent a significant vote of confidence in a product which is the foundation of Land Rover's reputation for off-road excellence; we believe these enhancements will win the hearts and minds of new and existing customers alike."

2007 Rover Defender is given more pulling power compared to its ancestors. The torque output of the vehicle is now higher. Its 360 Nm (265 lb ft) peak is delivered at only 2000 rpm and more than 315 Nm (232 lb ft) of torque is available from 1500 rpm to 2700 rpm.

Dave Saddington, Defender chief designer also pointed out, "Defender's timeless exterior has become synonymous with functional design. Every line and surface seems to be linked to the vehicle's extraordinary capability, so we deliberately changed very little. But the interior's a different story. We wanted to change the heating system and instruments, as well as improve ergonomics, all of which gave us the opportunity to introduce an all-new facia. In doing so, we've worked hard to reflect Defender's unique purpose and versatility inside the vehicle too. The new facia is better integrated, more robust and functionally superior to the old unit, whilst still entirely in keeping with Defender's character."

Take Off Your Bumper Stickers  from your Car
by Joe Thompson    -

You may have put in that bumper sticker on your vehicle for various reasons. You may have simply liked the message that the sticker told the world. Another reason could be that you just would not like to hurt your son's feelings when he presented you with that "I Love My Dad" bumper sticker on Fathers' Day. Or simply because you just were part of that organization whose campaign was to "Save The Whales".

No matter what the reason for putting that bumper sticker on your car, it seems like after such a period of time, the message you have stuck on your car seems to have faded already - maybe both literally and figuratively. You may not be supporting such a campaign at present anymore. Or maybe, people may not be able to decipher just what your bumper sticker said. Or what it actually tried to say in the first place. It has simply worn off that it just looks like a big piece of paper plastered on your car and you just want to take that off.

You can take off that faded bumper sticker by scraping it off the glass. To do this, you may use a razor blade. But make sure that you use a razor blade only if the bumper sticker has been placed on a window. However, if the sticker has been placed on a bumper, you can try to peel it off first with your fingers. Remember, there are rubber bumper stickers and this kind is easy to peel.

However, if you try to peel them off and it does not come off, you can use water. Have a basin filled with boiling hot water. You should protect your hands with some rubber gloves while you do this. Also have a dip rag or a sponge which you would be wetting on the water. Then, press this against the bumper sticker for around ten minutes or so. After that, you can use a plastic spatula or putty knife to peel away the sticker. Make sure that you do this slowly to avoid scratching or chipping your car's paint job.

Auto Parts and Car Parts: How Do I Find The Rare Ones?
By autoblog, 13:09

Auto Parts and Car Parts:
How Do I Find The Rare Ones?

by Hallidae Thomason  -

Classic cars and their auto parts are a tradition of this country. The USA is unique in its value of the personal rights of the individual citizen including the right to personal property. This means that there are a lot of collectors and just like anything else that people value cars break and need replacement parts.

Older cars are valued for their age and the history they signify. They also wear down over the years and require restoration. The problem is that there is a finite supply of these old auto parts as the models are no longer made. So there is a significant market for these parts. This is what I want to discuss in the next several paragraphs.

So auto parts are often sought to restore a car to its original working condition which is a state that is valued to relive important history. Therefore the demand is high which makes it easier to locate the auto parts because their sale can be a lucrative endeavor. So where do you find these parts and where do they come from?

Well anywhere you find antiques you can find these parts. Old estate auctions, flee markets, and antique malls. The problem is that these can be considerably time consuming and often not very productive. So before you go you should do your research. Body shops are good resources as they are constantly seeking auto parts, car collectors are another valuable source of information. Another great resource is the internet which brings together basically all people with a similar interest in the form of forums, or bulletin boards, or blogs. If there is a part you have the best chance of finding it on the internet.

Another great place to look for things like outdated auto parts is on the online auctions like ebay. If people seek it, that is if there is a market for it, than it is generally being sold on ebay. Often just like when you restore anything you may have to purchase more than just that one part (i.e. a whole car that is often in disrepair or inoperable) but that is what you deal with. The internet is also a great place to shop for parts for your new guns as well as there are liquidators and wholesalers for things like this on the web.

Hopefully this gives you a start as you seek to restore and/or repair that symbol of American freedom. Happing auto parts hunting!

Speeding Tickets And Your Rights - How to successfully fight and beat your Speeding Ticket!
By autoblog, 21:59

Speeding Tickets And Your Rights -
How to successfully fight and beat your Speeding Ticket!
by John Murray  -

Your day has been a rough one. Your boss was 'grumpy' and took it out on you. You had to go to several stores to find that 'perfect' gift for your mother-in-law. The kids had to be 'chauffeured' to and from separate after school activities. And now you're headed home to get a start on fixing dinner when you're pulled over and issued a citation for speeding. Now what? What if you don't even believe that you were speeding? Do you have any rights for contesting a speeding ticket?

You can of course opt to just pay the fine and be done with it, if you don't want to fight it by going to court. You will find the information on how to pay your fine on the back of the ticket that you have been issued. However, every motorist who is issued a speeding ticket has the right to contest that ticket in court if they believe it was issued to them falsely.

The laws regarding how speeding tickets are handled within the courts system varies state by state. In some states you have the right to have your case heard by a judge. This is known as a 'bench trail' and a judge determines your guilt or innocence. In other states you have the option of having a 'jury trial" wherein a jury of your peers decides the merits of the speeding ticket you've been issued and whether you have to pay it or not. In a few states such as California, the courts have set up a traffic division to handle speeding tickets and you can contest the issuance of your speeding ticket directly to this division.

You have the right to ask when the radar equipment used to establish the rate of speed at which you are accused of traveling was last "calibrated." Many speeding tickets have been dismissed because if the radar equipment hasn't been "calibrated" or "reset" recently, it calls into question the reliability of its accuracy for determining the speed at which you are accused of traveling.

Regardless of whether you have a bench or jury trial, or appear before a traffic court official, you have the right to 'appeal' a conviction if you believe that you didn't deserve to be issued or have to pay for a speeding ticket issued to you. You would 'appeal' your conviction through the 'court of appeals.'

John Murray publishes a speeding ticket blog filled with helpful articles about how to avoid, fight, and beat speeding tickets.

Keep Your Automotive Tools Handy
by Joe Thompson  -

Now that you have your own car, it is important that you do have the right automotive tools in handy. This is because you would never know when your car might act up and you would need to do some adjustments or repairs yourself. You should have a set of the basic and the most used automotive tools for car owners. These automotive tools should be kept handy either in a car repair kit or box inside your car or even in your car's trunk.

One of the first things that you should purchase for your car's tool kit would be an adjustable wrench. This tool has the ability to actually automatically adjust to the size of the nut and could loosen or tighten everything. You should shell out around $10 to $40 for this one.

You should include a continuity tester. It is an electrical test equipment. You can use this to check if there is an electrical path that can be made between two points. This is good for testing electrical parts in your car. This should cost you around $3 to $40.

For around $1.50 each, you should get a couple of funnels. This should help you out greatly in adding fluids and oils in your car. Make sure that you clean them after using them and also make sure that you use only one funnel for each fluid. For example, you should only use one funnel for adding brake fluid. Never use this funnel to add oil or washer fluid.

Do not forget to put in a car jack. You should spend around $9 for this one. You should use this in case you need to change your tires. This is one of the indispensable items that you should not forget to include in your automotive tool kit.

A great and secure way to maintain your vehicle would also be to install quality auto parts such as grilles and mud guards that you can purchase from Auto Parts Discount. This is one of the most trusted sources of auto parts today.

Fight High Gas Prices
by Improving Your Car's Fuel Efficiency

by Scott Michaels  -

Not everyone buys their cars based on the car fuel efficiency alone, but it would be safe to presume that it is one of the foremost considerations.

It is much more than a mere technical obsession. The running cost of the car, not to mention the maintenance aspect, depends solely on the car fuel efficiency.

One of the very first questions that car users ask each other is, "What is your car fuel efficiency?" And naturally! Everyone who drives a car is bound to be concerned about car fuel efficiency.

Most people whine and cry about their car fuel efficiency, but seldom do little else! People believe that it is the responsibility of the car manufacturer or the mechanic to keep the car performing at its optimum efficiency. But little do they realize that there is a whole lot that they themselves can do to ensure their car fuel efficiency.

If you drive on a very low gear for instance when a higher gear would work just as well, it is natural that the fuel efficiency will drop. So learning to understand the efficiency levels of driving and following them well will go a long way in ensuring car fuel efficiency.

For one thing, they can drive carefully and in accordance with the manual for efficiency. The car manual exists for a reason. And that is to ensure that the gear changes and the driving speeds work in tandem to give your car the maximum fuel efficiency.

Another way to increase the fuel efficiency is to use the air conditioning in the car only when it is absolutely critical. This way, not only can you make your car go longer on lesser fuel, but you can also ensure that your battery life is enhanced.

So remember to drive with your windows open for the purpose of ventilation rather than close all windows and set the air conditioning on full blast. It is a matter of dollars and sense!

Still another way to ensure that your car is fuel efficient is to ensure that you have filled your tires to the optimum level. If your tires are not filled with enough air, the friction levels increase dramatically.

When this happens, it takes more power for the car to move the same distance than say, when the tires are filled to the optimum level and make the car travel along smoother. Although this is clearly specified in the manual, not many people pay heed to it. Following these simple steps will surely increase your car fuel efficiency.

All About The Porsche 911 Turbo
by Andrew Manifield   -

In 2006, Dr. Ing. H.c. Porsche will extend it's current product line with the addition of a new 911 Turbo, the sixth generation of the 911 series. This top-of-the-range model will have its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show on February 28, 2006 and as from June 24, 2006 it will be available in German dealerships. The 911 Turbo (type 997) has a few improvements. It has an output of 480 bhp at 6,000 rpm, a 3.6 litre engine, a rated torque of 620 Nm and a maximum torque available between 1,950 and 5,000 rpm. All these numbers are translated into driving performance, as the 911 Turbo with six-speed manual transmission only needs 3.9 seconds to get from zero to 100 km/h.

The coupe reaches 200 km/h in 12.8 seconds. Despite these performance statistics, Porsche developers succeeded to keep the average consumption to 12.8 liters per100 km. For those who need even more speed, the 911 Turbo offers the optionally Tiptronic S automatic transmission. This way, it can reach 100 km/h from a standing start in just 3.7 seconds and 200 km/h in a mere 12.2 seconds. Both manual and automatic transmissions have a top speed of 310 km/k. Available for the first time, the optional "Sport Chrono Package Turbo" enhances the vehicle's flexibility even further.

The Porsche 911 Turbo features a redesigned all-wheel drive with an electronically controlled multi-disc clutch. The result will be the transfer of the available power to the road. That's because, depending on the driving conditions, this system will determine the optimal torque distribution to ensure the best-possible drive. Also, Porsche Traction Management (PTM) ensures variable power distribution to the two driven axles. This means that on the road the 911Turbo will prove outstanding traction in the rain or snow, high agility on narrow country roads and optimal active safety even at high speeds.

The new 911 Turbo's driving performance is duly tempered by its brake system, which comprises monobloc fixed-caliper disc brakes with six pistons at the front axle and four at the rear. The diameter of the internally ventilated and perforated brake discs at the front and rear wheels is 350 millimeters. An optimized ceramic brake system that Porsche offers is Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB). This high-tech system reduces with 17 kilograms the standard brake system and provides an excellent fading stability.

The major bodywork change of the 911 Turbo is the modified front end with its distinctive, tautly drawn cooling air inlets. Combined with the standard oval bi-xenon headlights, it will define the new unmistakable image. From the rear perspective too, the Turbo will seem more powerful. This is due first and foremost to its tail end, 22 millimeters wider than that of the previous model, to which the redesigned wing spoiler element has been aligned.

Secondly, the lateral air inlets behind the doors have been redrawn and now they offer a more efficient supply of cooling air to the charge-air intercoolers.

The basic price for the 911 Turbo is 115,000 Euros. In the USA, from July 8, 2006, the vehicle will be available at $122,000 (not including taxes).

Having spent months of research on different subjects, for independant companies, Andrew Manifield has decided to publish his articles on many subjects at his own website, visit to learn more.

Ford Fiesta and Fusion's Sales Continue To Rise
By autoblog, 19:52

Ford Fiesta and Fusion's Sales Continue To Rise
by Jay Stevens   -

The Ford Fiesta and the Ford Fusion has been refreshened for the automobile market. And now, this has assisted greatly in keeping the sales and the numbers up. So far, the Ford Focus has remained the best selling vehicle for the Ford of Europe. In fact, for this year, it has already sold some 157,000 units already and yet the year has not yet ended. On the other hand, the Ford Fiesta is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, 2006. Closely following suit is success for it has experienced an increase of some five percent in sales. Last April alone, it sold some 27,100 units.

The first four months of 2006 proved to be quite a prediction for the months ahead for Ford in Europe. You see, during this first quarter, Ford in Europe experienced selling 131,00 Ford Fiestas which is actually a nine percent rise in sales compared to the same period for last year. If you put the Ford Fusion's sales along with the Ford Fiesta's, the total sales went up to 162,800 units which actually equates to a nine percent increase.

According to Stephen Odell, the vice president of marketing, sales, and service of Ford of Europe, "As market leader in the UK, Ford sales feel the affect of slower demand in that region more than others. We are fully confident that we will retain overall market leadership for the year in the UK, without resorting to pursuing unprofitable business. Elsewhere, we continue to have tremendous success in emerging markets, which we expect to continue to grow strongly in the future."

At Ford Parts Online, quality Ford starters and Ford alternators are in stock right at your fingertips, along with parts for many other Ford vehicles, makes, and models. By simply browsing through the site, you can search for quality and low-priced Ford parts.

The Most Important Part When Buying A Car
By autoblog, 22:48

The Most Important Part When Buying A Car

by Jeff Neilan  -

I had what I thought was an interesting question sent in to me the other day and that is the topic of this article. The question asked was essentially; out of all of the car buying tips, the car deal negotiating tips, and out of all the do's and don't do's when you are car shopping and ultimately buying, what is the single most important area to have under control as the buyer.

I had to preface my answer by saying that in order to get your best deal when buying a car, there are many pieces to the car buying puzzle. They are all individually important because when you put all the buying processes together they make up your deal. And all of these car buying puzzle pieces are what dealerships are all about. They each represent an opportunity to sell you something and therefore make a profit on that sale.

Having said that, this is a great question and you would probably get many different answers. But, since you asked and I have pondered... I'll give you my thoughts.

I would have to say financing. You must take the time to do such things as:

Get and understand your credit report.

Shop around for your financing options and ultimately get yourself pre-approved so you will know the amount, the interest rate you qualify for, and the length of your loan.

If you don't get your financing questions answered and in order, you can literally cost yourself thousands of dollars. So, while all of the other aspects of buying a car are indeed important, such as the price of the new car, what you get for your trade, and all of the research that goes into these areas; you can literally give it all back and much more in the dealer's finance department.

"If I get all my financing lined up ahead of time, why would I even bother with the dealer's finance department?"

A Good question; and there are a couple of aspects to the answer. First, once you know what you qualify for (a bird in hand), you can then give the dealer's finance manager the opportunity to do even better for you. Secondly, even if you have no intention of using the dealer financing option, you'll still have to have a seat in the finance office just to sign all the paperwork. Which means the finance person will do their best to "sell" you their financing package. So being prepared is the best answer.

If you have your financing in hand and know all your numbers ahead of time, you'll be able to fend off the monthly payment approach by the car dealer's sales person. Buying a car based on monthly payments is good for the dealer; bad for you.

Also, your financing homework becomes even more important if your credit is less than grade 'A'. Be mindful that just the difference in just a couple of percentage points on your interest rate can represent over a thousand dollars to you during the life of your loan. And if your credit score leaves a little to be desired by potential lenders, you will probably see a wider range of qualifying quotes that you get back. So it is even more important that you get your car financing house in order before you head out to the dealership.

Certainly, financing is but one piece of the car buying puzzle. But, it's a big piece. And you can rest assured it's a big piece (for potential profit) for the dealer. Many people don't realize that this is yet another area at the dealership that you can and should try to negotiate on the road to getting your best car deal.

If you have done your research and homework to give yourself the best possible chance on the front end of the car buying process (new car & trade-in), don't give it all back on the back end of the deal (financing & insurance - F&I) by not knowing what your financing numbers and options are.

Inspect A Used Car Before Buying
By autoblog, 09:12

Inspect A Used Car Before Buying
by Terry Brown

It is important that you inspect a used car before you actually purchase it. You see, when you do like a car because of the facts and information given while it was advertised may not be actually true. Some people who sell their vehicles would often create information about the vehicle even if they are not even actually found on the vehicle itself. So it important that you go through the vehicle and check it out first.

Look at the car's exterior first. If you notice that the paint is still new, ask when the car was painted. You see, some people when they sell cars actually paint up their vehicles so as to cover up other details like rust beneath. It is also important that you check the bumpers and the wheel wells. When you do that, look for signs of rust, dents, or body fillers. Look for rest most especially the underside. If you see exterior rust, there may be more where you cannot see them.

You should also go through both sides of the car. Check also the front, the rear, and the bottom of the vehicle and be on the alert for any signs of major body repair as well as any inconsistencies. The interior should not be simply taken for granted. Look at the interior and check if there are any damages. The upholstery should be checked for any kind of tear or stain as well as sun damage. Check the overall look of the interior.

Lift up the hood and look at the engine and see if it is clean. Look for rust on the exhaust manifold and oil leaks as well. You should also check the oil on the dipstick. Rub it against your thumb. Now, if you feel small particles in the oil, it probably means that the engine may be already worn or may be experiencing some other problems.

Start the engine and take it for a test drive. Be aware of the performance and the handling of the vehicle. Also make sure that the other features are working like the brakes as well as the vehicle's lights.

Saving Big With Hybrid Cars

Insider report.

Saving Big With Hybrid Cars
by Aurel Radulescu

In America, a standard automobile gets an average of 20.4 miles per gallon. With the innovative hybrid technology, consumers can expect to get a lot more mileage for their dollar. According to researchers, the Honda Insight was designed specifically for the purpose of getting the best gas mileage and is said to be the current industry leader in this type of hybrid savings.

Just how much of a difference will consumers see with the Honda Insight hybrid cars? Studies have shown that hybrid cars featuring a manual transmission will get approximately 60 miles per gallon in the city and 66 miles per gallon on the highway. Hybrid cars with an automatic transmission generally provide slightly less than 57 miles per gallon in the city and 56 miles per gallon on the highway.

The brand new 2006 Honda Civic hybrid cars are only manufactured with an automatic transmission and provide an approximate 50 miles per gallon on the highway and/or the city.

As expected, hybrid cars will get better mileage per gallon than that of a hybrid SUVs. The Ford Escape, for example, provides 36 miles per gallon in the city and 31 miles per gallon on the highway. Even with these numbers, the hybrid Escape is rated to provide better gas mileage than the non-hybrid Escape, which is only said to provide 22 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway.

The most popular reason for consumers to purchase hybrid cars is because they are economical. With the recent rise in gasoline prices, consumers were left searching for an automobile that could provide better gas mileage and found just that in hybrid cars. In addition to their fuel friendly design, hybrid cars are no longer confined to one or two cookie cutter designs. In fact, today's hybrid cars are available in a variety of sizes, colors and are manufactured by a several automobile makers.

With all of the aforementioned benefits, many wonder just how much the convenience of saving money will cost. Surprisingly, hybrid cars are not drastically priced above other non-hybrid automobiles. In fact, hybrid cars & SUVs can be found in prices ranging from $20,000 to $50,000 for standard models, but may cost more depending on chosen upgrades.

The new hybrid cars are available in the look of typical highway automobiles or those designed with a unique flair. Either way, the manufacturers of hybrid cars believe that while appearance is important, the most important thing about these new technologically advanced autos is the fact that they are both environmentally and wallet friendly.

OBD1 Codes Secrets for Check Engine light

OBD1 Codes Secrets for Check Engine light
By Richard Trent

For vehicles made after 1996, retrieving the codes of the check engine light in your dash panel is simple. All you need to do is find your diagnostic connector located under the dash by the driver side. You can then hook up a scanner and the codes will be displayed for you. If you don’t have any scanner like most drivers, you can bring your vehicle to any local automotive parts store and they will usually scan the codes FREE for you. However, for vehicles made on or before 1995, there is only one cheap way to get it: You do it yourself!

On board diagnostic (OBD) was designed on vehicles equipped with electronic fuel injection so you can generally retrieve the codes yourself. No need buying a scanner or running to any parts stores to check the engine light. This system is called obd1 and applies to most vehicles made before 1995 for domestics and 1993 on imports. In this article, I will discuss the methods used by domestic vehicle manufacturers on how to check the engine light codes in their cars and trucks.

For GM domestic vehicles made before 1995, the diagnostic connector is located under the dash panel by the driver side. To get the check engine codes to flash in your dash panel, use a jumper wire or a paper clip and connect terminals A and B of the diagnostic connector. Turn your ignition key on with engine off and the codes should start to blink. All codes should start with code 12 which is one long flash followed by 2 short flashes. This code 12 means the diagnostic system is normal and will repeat itself continuously if there are no trouble codes. Otherwise, code 12 will flash 3 times before flashing the fault codes.

Ford owners can check their check engine light using the diagnostic connector located at the engine compartment by the fender near the battery. Getting the obd1 codes need a couple of tools: a 4 inch long gage 16 jumper wire and a 12 volt test light.

Both tools are hooked up to the diagnostic connector and when the ignition key is turned on (without starting engine) the codes will begin to flash in the test light, not in the dash panel. If there is no code, you will normally get code 11 or 111. On Fords, there are 2 test modes, the KOEO (key on engine off) and the KOER (key on engine running). Both test modes should be used to get the accurate evaluation of the stored fault codes.

Of all the 3 domestic vehicles, the easiest method to check the engine light is Chrysler products. Why? Because all you need is to turn the ignition key on and off a within 5 seconds and the codes will start to flash in the dash panel.

Counting the codes being flashed is almost the same for these 3 domestic vehicles and most of the codes can be erased or cleared by disconnecting the battery negative terminal for 1 minute and reconnect. Just make sure to check your service manual in case you have electronic equipment such as radio or clock that needs reprogramming in which battery disconnection is not recommended. Finally after performing repairs on the culprit code, always go for a road test to confirm if the problem is fixed.

If you want a detailed way on how the above procedures are done, please visit my blog:  . How To Choose The Best Tire For Your Hybrid Car
By autoblog, 22:57

How To Choose The Best Tire For Your Hybrid Car
By Gregg Hall

Those who are unfamiliar with hybrid cars may not know that most come with new innovative tire designs.  When replacing your tires on your hybrid car, you should stick with the low-rolling resistance tires.  Those who own hybrid cars however know that these special low-rolling resistance tires are the best thing since the hybrid design itself.  Consumers are definitely not the only ones with their eyes on the new low-rolling resistance tires however.  Every major tire maker is getting in on the trend with new tires coming out frequently.

You may wonder what low-rolling resistance actually means. The name is a measurement of how tires roll on the road.  If the tire rolls easily, then it is considered a low-rolling resistant tire.  One benefit of these innovative tires is that they minimize the energy used by the tire.  Tires use energy as heat in three different locations.  First, there is heat between the tire and the road.  Secondly, there is heat between the tire and the sidewall.  Lastly, there is heat between the tire and the rim.

The great thing about the low-rolling resistance tires is that they maintain traction, handling, and durability.  When used with special suspension and brakes, they reduce resistance even more.  The tires go through all of the approval standards of normal tires, so you can be sure they are safe to use.

Now that you know more about tires, you may wonder how they can make tires that reduce the energy usage.  The answer is that tire manufacturers are using several different elements to create low-rolling resistance tires.  First, they focus on the design of the tread.  Different companies are using different designs, so you may seem many different designs coming to the consumer soon.  After choosing a great design, they also choose lighter and stronger materials and reduce the sidewall to reduce flexing of the tire.  The tires are made to run without air pressure.  Most of them can still be used for up to 50 miles with no air pressure whatsoever.  This is an amazing trait of these tires.  With tires that can run without air pressure, you really have no need to carry around a jack or other tools for changing tires.  You would have plenty of time to get to the mechanic shop or home before your tire would be useless.

Studies have shown that using low-rolling resistant tires on your vehicle can save on your gas budget.  These efficient tires are fitted for each vehicle, which in turn will make your vehicle run smoother and more efficiently.  It is estimated that you can save up to 6% on gas usage when using low-rolling resistance tires on your car.  When considering these tires, which tend to cost about $40 more than regular tires for a complete set, think about what you could save at the pump.  You may be spending a little more when purchasing the tire set, but you will save more than you are spending in the long run.

Although these great tires can save you bundles, low-rolling resistance tires have had a few complaints.  Some drivers don’t like the way they handle on the road.  But most low-rolling resistance tires have great tread, if you are a wild driver, they may not be as great for handling.  However, slow or cautious drivers have seen no negative change.  It is more of a personal preference when it comes to how they handle.

Consumers are taking the benefits of the new low-rolling resistance tires very seriously. California has even passed legislation that requires all replacement tires sold in the state to be as efficient as tires on new vehicles, which are mostly low-rolling resistance tires.  This is a huge step toward the low-rolling resistance trend.  More states are considering legislation as well.

When looking for new tires for your hybrid, be sure to check out the low-rolling resistance options.  It is likely that your old tires were low-rolling resistance tires, so you will be used to the features they offer, whether or not you knew about their benefits before.  You may be spending a little more in the beginning, but you will make up the upfront cost in gas savings almost immediately.

Save More On The Move With The Right Truck Rental
By Tom Sample

Almost no one wants to deal with a move. Although it's exciting to get a new place, the packing, lifting and unpacking just aren't fun. Hiring movers might be an option for some, but for others the added expense takes away from other necessities they may need in the new place. Those looking to save a little money might benefit from a truck lease. Rather than having to round up every truck you can get your hands on and a ton of friends to drive and load, a single large moving truck on a lease can solve a lot of problems.

Before running out and leasing a big moving truck, however, it's a good idea to assess what you really need. If you're moving from a tiny studio apartment, it's not likely you'll need a massive truck to get the job done. But, if you have the contents of a whole home, you just might.

***  iCarFinder - Find Cheapest Cars and other Auctions  ***

Truck rental agreements can be a little confusing for someone who's never leased before.

* Exact rental dates. Make sure you have arranged for the truck for the days and hours you need it. Don't leave this to chance. There's nothing worse than having 10 friends show up to help you move and finding out the truck you need has been rented to someone else for that day.

* Pricing. Does the rental fee include mileage, too, or will that be an extra expense? Ask.

* Return policy. Know where you need to bring the truck back to when you're done. If you're moving in town, this will be easy. But, cross-country moves may require a map for the drop off location.

* Is a full tank required upon return? If it is, you'll want to make sure this is completed before you turn the truck in.

* Is insurance offered. If it is, you likely will want to buy it unless your regular car policy will cover the truck from any damage while you're driving it.

Once you've determined these things, you should be set to make the lease. Get a truck that meets your needs and isn't too big for you to handle. Be certain to understand the terms of the lease and don't forget to check on rental dates and confirm the reservation.

Before you pick up the truck, make sure:

* You've done your packing.

* Make sure breakables have been secured.

* Clearly label boxes so friends who are helping don't put 50 pounds of books on top of your china!

* Make certain valuable items that won't go on the truck, or shouldn't, have been set aside so no one will load them. This includes such things as important papers, expensive antiques and even electronic devices.

A rental truck can really help make a move go more smoothly. Getting ready for the big day before you get the big truck, however, can also be a big assistance.

SUV Ford Explorer 2006 Review
By autoblog, 13:48

Ford Explorer 2006 review
By Serge Vankevich

Recently I have tested the new Ford Explorer 2006 RSC Advanced Trail. And I was impressed. I leave you to find a complete list of specifications of this the most selling SUV in North America somewhere else on numerous websites, in car magazines, and present below impression and opinion of my own.

Ford Explorer 2006 is the real proof that straggling company is on a right track to gain back trust of Americans significantly corroded in a last 15-20 years, although Explorer, as it mentioned before, remains the bestseller through these years of Japanese auto expansion to the American market.

The new Explorer is one of those vehicles that present well balanced combination of SUV and car abilities. Its highway ride on a 100/120 km per hour is smooth and absolute cars’ like. In fact I regret while on a front passenger seat that this SUV is missing a handle above the window which is standard on every well equipped car model. Other than that it is provide car’s comfort in every dimension with very good noise protection. Powerful engine almost silent, suspension soft enough,  dashboard is well designed with all buttons of a right size and in proper place except maybe gear shifter that looks like an on/off switch on a kids electronic toy.

I am a car guy, so to continue SUV/car comparison I have also figured out that the front passenger of new Explorer is slightly discriminated (as at most trucks and cars) compare to the driver in its ability to go in/out of the truck. While driver enjoys “seat moving back” feature when key is out from ignition, passenger is climbing in its seat with far less comfort ability. Nevertheless both driver and passenger seats are comfortable even for a long ride.  Praising designers for the Explorer’s dashboard I will withdraw a few compliments back while talking about inside door handles. As for me they are located too low to be good to grab to open/close the door for an average size man.

Every vehicle today is a receptacle of cap holders and Explorer is no exception. But not every one has convenient and big enough glove compartment, so our tester is definitely not a winner here.

I like adjustable pedals, it is a great option. But is it safe to allow the driver to adjust pedal while driving?

There is plenty of room on a second raw seats and roomy enough although less comfortable on a third. At least you have an option: carry 6 passengers and no luggage or 4 with descent cubic footage on a back of your Explorer.

For some reason all four doors of new Explorer in their lowest part are sharply curved towards the body of the vehicle and it’s cool and probably gives some extra rigidity. But if you are tended to notice with regret every new scratch on your beast/beauty body (pick the one!); you will see them (scratches) for sure right after taking Explorer off road for a first time.  Scratches easily appear on a lower part of rear doors which sandwiches between the vehicle’s frames and sidestep with so small clearance in between, that sand and muds sticking to the doors are working as abrasives for all surfaces.

Few years ago I have tested then new Explorer 2001 along with others SUVs in a same class like Nissan Pathfinder, Jeep Cherokee etc. That Ford Explorer was not much different or worse than other contestants in terms of off road capabilities. But it was squeaking and crackling on every serious pothole or bump. There is nothing like this on Explorer 2006.

Year after year customer demands more and more from the vehicle and auto manufacturers should accommodate those demands to keep pace. Ford made it with the new Explorer. It is really great truck.

AUDI R10 TDI - Audi Shows Diesels Are Ready For Prime Time.
By autoblog, 22:04

Audi R10 TDI: Audi Shows Diesels Are Ready For Prime Time.
by Peter Johnson.

Although most people in North America believe diesel engines are slow, rough and decidedly unsporty, Audi has proved them wrong by winning The Twelve Hours of Sebring this past weekend in their Audi R10 TDI. In case you're wondering, this 650hp racecar is a diesel. It went up against the best from Porsche, Aston Martin, Lola and others to win by 4 laps at the famed endurance race in Florida. Although this is a critical victory, Audi has its sights set on winning The 24 Hours of Le Mans in June and making automotive history.

Audi has spent much time and energy building a diesel racecar. The main advantage is that because diesels are inherently more fuel efficient, they'll make fewer pit stops than the competition. This strategy clearly worked out.

Just like most automotive technologies, the lessons learned on the racetrack might some day be applied to production cars. As more and more consumers look for more fuel-efficient cars, diesel technology is hitting its stride. As of June 2006 North America will finally have Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel meaning European manufacturers can bring over more diesel engine variants if they want too. They were unable before due to the poor diesel fuel quality here in North America. The new regulations mean the sulfur content in diesel fuel will be reduced to 15ppm from 500ppm.

Although hybrids emit less pollution, new diesel particulate traps are helping to make diesel emissions cleaner than ever. Unlike hybrids, diesels have a long-standing reputation as being reliable and built to last. A battery pack for hybrids can cost upwards of $8000 and there's not yet a sufficient amount of data to determine how often they need to be replaced.

Victories like the one this past weekend by Audi are not just important in the race world, but also in the public relations world. Should the 650hp Audi R10 TDI win at Le Mans in June, this will help to fuel North America's appetite for high performance diesel technology.

5 Common Mistakes To Avoid When Buying A Used Car
By autoblog, 10:39

5 Common Mistakes To Avoid When Buying A Used Car
by Jim Johnson.

The used car market is huge, and every day lots of people are spending way too much money when they buy a used car. Dealers count on this. In fact, the used car section of most new car dealerships is one of the most profitable departments for the dealer. There are usually very common mistakes that most people make that cost them money. Let's review them here:

1. Not doing advance research to know what their current car is worth. This is a very common mistake that is so easy to solve today. There are two major providers of used car value information in the US and they are (1) Kelly Blue Book and (2) the NADA Guide. It used to be that you had to find someone who had a copy of one of either of them to find out what your vehicle is worth. But now all you have to do is just log onto the internet and go to their websites to get a quick, easy figure with no hassle. It's worth the time taken to know what your car is worth as you start to negotiate a trade-in or sale.

2. Not doing the homework needed to find out what car will be best for you. All too often shoppers make the mistake of getting too focused on one particular brand or model and not even considering alternatives, simply because either they don't know about the others, or they are just allowing emotions to rule their buying decision instead of being well-informed. If you get too emotionally attached to one car, this plays into the hands of the dealer and you will most likely pay a lot more for the car than you would if didn't let emotion control the process.

3. Not arranging financing beforehand. These days it just makes no sense to rely on a car dealer to finance your vehicle for you after you have picked it out. When you do that you are now allowing the dealer to mark up the financing arrangements and get paid a portion of the loan profits as a result. You will never usually notice it though because it is hidden in the monthly payments. Instead, there are many great loan companies that offer loans direct to consumers over the internet, and you can get all of your financing needs taken care of in advance. This leaves you free to negotiate the very best deal for the car you want without financing entering the picture and muddying the waters.

4. Not doing a thorough test drive. It's amazing how many people only spend a few minutes in a car that they plan to use for the next several years and call it a test drive. Especially with used cars you need to get to know that car and make sure that it performs as you desire in whatever kind of driving conditions that you plan to use it, and take the time necessary to test it thoroughly. Also make sure that anyone else can fit into the car comfortably if you have family and friends that travel with you often.

5. Not having the car inspected by a qualified mechanic. This is perhaps one of the most significant reasons that buyers wind up with a car that has problems. Unless you are a mechanic yourself, you most likely will not be able to truly determine the mechanical condition of the car. By taking it to an independent mechanic and asking for a written report on the vehicle's condition, you should have a pretty good idea of whether this car is in sound condition or not.

If you avoid the common mistakes mentioned above, you can often buy a used car at the right price, that fits your needs and wants, and get peace of mind in the bargain.

Doing A Little Zoom-Zoom With the Mazda CX 7
By autoblog, 11:26

Doing A Little Zoom-Zoom With the Mazda CX 7
by Joe Thompson.

Early this year, the building and production of another new vehicle from the Mazda Motor Corporation has already begun. And the stage has been set in Hiroshima, Japan, which is also where the headquarters of this giant automobile company is based. And this new vehicle that would soon be on sale this year is the Mazda CX 7.

The Mazda CX 7 is a crossover sport utility vehicle that is midsize. And this vehicle is actually the production version of the Mazda MX Crossport that was a concept car. When this vehicle starts to strut its stuff on the market, it would actually be marketed as a 2007 model. This vehicle will fill the niche that the Mazda Tribute has left behind. However, it has been said that this vehicle would only stay for a short time which would only be up until the company is able to take off two more new sport utility vehicles come the year 2008. The Mazda CX 7 is considered to be quite similar to the Honda Pilot, the Nissan Murano, Subaru B9 Tribeca, and the Toyota Highlander.

Beneath the glamour and the beauty of the Mazda CX 7, one's interest would also be held by the machine that keeps this vehicle running. The source of power of this vehicle is a 2.3 liter straight four MZR engine. This very same engine is also used in the Mazda Mazdaspeed 6. This power source could actually produce some 244 hp at 5000 rpm and also 258 pound feet of torque at a low 2500 rpm. Aside from that, this vehicle also boasts of additional features to make the driving and riding the Mazda CX 7 more pleasant and very enjoyable. The list of features include fully independent suspension systems, four wheel ventilated disc brakes with anti lock brakes made standard, and a stability control and traction control system. Interested parties may also have a choice between a front wheel drive and the Mazda Active Torque Split all wheel drive system. The latter actually has a computer controlled coupling that is able to provide up to a maximum of fifty percent of the whole of the engine's torque to its rear wheels.

The Mazda CX 7 has been built on a new platform which has shown that the rumors were untrue about this sport utility vehicle using the same Ford/Mazda CD3 platform that is also used by the Ford Edge crossover, the Mazda6, and the Lincoln MKX crossover.

To know more about the Mazda CX 7 and also to purchase parts of this vehicle and other Mazda parts, you can actually visit Auto Parts Discount. Auto Parts Discount is one of the leading suppliers of Mazda parts in the United States. Each and every Mazda part that this online store offers is guaranteed to be made from excellent quality, durable and reliable material that would surely maintain the exquisite performance of any Mazda vehicle. Also, these parts are guaranteed to fit. With the parts available at discount and wholesale prices, Auto Parts Discount also offers an excellent customer service staff for any inquiries regarding their products.

Transcending Boundaries with the Ford Gran Torino

Transcending Boundaries with the Ford Gran Torino
by Chuck Smith

If you are the type of person who is very much into speed, racing, and driving, then you are most likely familiar with the Ford Gran Torino.

The Ford Gran Torino is a vehicle that has been produced by the Ford Motor Company of the United States. It was produced from 1968 up until the year 1976 and was made especially for the market in North America. This vehicle was actually manufactured into various models and specifications. Some were made to perform. And this vehicle was also the chosen one with regards to the Ford Motor Company's entry to the NASCAR.

The Ford Gran Torino was considered to be a midsize car as per American standards, that is during that time when it was produced. However, as per modern standards, this vehicle could be considered to be a large one although it is quite smaller than the Ford Galaxie which was a full size vehicle. For some people, the Ford Gran Torino was considered as a muscle car.

Ford Parts Online manufactures and sells performance products and accessories for Ford vehicles. Ford Parts Online strives to be the ultimate source for performance products and accessories for most of the vehicles from this automobile manufacturer. This online store's product line up for Ford vehicles are guaranteed to be of durable quality material. Its extensive array of maximum quality Ford parts like Ford Gran Torino parts and Ford Galaxie parts is available at great wholesale deals.

The Ford Gran Torino actually replaced the Ford Fairlane. However, it was quite larger. It was also made available in various body styles that include a two door fastback or notchback hardtop; a four door sedan; a four door station wagon; and a two door convertible. The power for this vehicle came from the 5.0 small block V8 engine during its introduction. However, through the years when it existed, this vehicle received several vehicles like the Ford FE series 390 in³ big block engine; and the 428 Cobra Jet FE series engine.

The entire length of automobile history thinks of the Ford Gran Torino as a vehicle that is worth every cent you spend on it. After all, many followers of this vehicle believe that it is a living testimony of spirit and performance. This vehicle has been referred to as the vehicle that is suited for all ages, generations, races, and places. Its design and its over all look transcends through every possible demarcation or categorization. It holds aerodynamic lines that take any onlookers' breath away. The Ford Gran Torino has been especially known and popular for the 351 Cleveland engine, the Hurst four speed manual transmission system, the high back bucket seats, the ribbon style tachometer, the sports slats, and the rear traction look differential. These and the overall essence of the Ford Gran Torino has brought about its success and fame.

Changes were constantly done in to this vehicle. The changes included engine upgrades, a floor mounted four speed manual transmission system, an upgraded suspension system, dual exhaust, bucket seats, a larger body, pointed grilles, and longer lines.

5 Steps To Buying A Car For Less Online
By autoblog, 00:18

5 Steps To Buying A Car For Less Online
by Jim Johnson

The old days of traveling from dealer to dealer and walking through each car lot to find out what models were available and what they cost are increasingly becoming a faded memory. The internet has radically changed the process of locating and buying a car and the advantage is definitely in favor of savvy consumers. If you really want to save money and get the car that fits you best, here are the 5 steps to take to buy a car for less online:

1. Do all of your research online before you even begin to think about actually shopping for a car. Every year the car manufacturers change up their model offerings and you need to be up-to-date with the latest changes so you can make an informed and smart decision about the vehicle you will be buying. Get thoroughly familiar with the models that are available and then decide what kind of car will suit your needs best. There are plenty of models to choose from, but there is no one model that fits everyone, so ask yourself if you need an auto or manual transmission, how much cargo space do you need, is four-wheel drive necessary where you live, and other related questions that help establish what you need and not just what you want.

2. Have a clear idea of how much car you can afford to buy. If you are one of the fortunate few who can afford to pay cash for the vehicle, establish your ceiling price for the vehicle you intend to buy. If you plan on financing as most do, set the acceptable monthly payment range that you can afford. Once you have these figures in mind, make sure that you don't spend in excess of them. This will help you avoid a lot of buyers remorse over letting your emotion rule all of your car buying decisions.

3. Arrange your financing in advance on your own. You will almost always make out much better on a car loan if you deal with a finance company directly and cut out the middleman. The car dealer will of course offer easy loan arrangements but you will usually pay much more for this convenience. The internet has made loan shopping easy and fast, so why not do it yourself and save money?

4. Make a search online for the car model that you want and find out where they are located. When you see that a dealer has the model you want start the negotiation process online. Most savvy car dealers have internet salespeople that are specifically trained to work with the internet shopper and so you can usually get to the rock bottom price that you want much faster by communicating with the dealer internet department directly.

5. Once you have agreed on a fair price with the dealer, make an appointment for a test drive and make sure that you are comfortable not only with the deal that was made but also the condition of the vehicle and the way you are treated at that dealership. If all is to your satisfaction, complete the sale.

By following this simple procedure you can actually save thousands because you become an educated consumer that knows what they want and is not ruled by buying emotions. You also avoid costly middlemen in the buying process and stay in control as you complete the sale. All of this will help you buy a car for much less online.

Why do we call them imports?
By autoblog, 21:57

Why do we call them imports?
by Peter Johnson

A few decades ago it was easy to spot an import car. They were small, mostly 4-cylinder econo-boxes that were made in Japan or Germany. However, over the last 2 decades, more and more foreign manufacturers have built plants here in North America. Honda built the first Japanese manufacturing facility in Ohio in 1979. Today, Honda builds the Accord, Civic, Odyssey, and Acura MDX in plants in Canada and The United States. Toyota builds the Camry, Avalon, Corolla, Solara, Tacoma, Tundra, Matrix, Sienna, and Lexus RX350 in plants across Canada and the United States as well. Nissan builds virtually all of their vehicles in The United States including the Maxima, Altima, Titan, Armada, Frontier, Pathfinder, and Xterra. Mitsubishi, Subaru, BMW, Hyundai and Mercedes-Benz also build cars throughout The United States. So do you still label a car an import if it's made in your own country? Are the Crown Victoria and Chevrolet Impala imports because they're made in Canada? What about the new Ford Fusion? Is that an import car? It's made in Mexico.

Okay, perhaps an import is a vehicle that is designed somewhere else regardless of where it is built. Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan, Subaru and others have Research & Development centers in the United States (mostly in California). Many also have design studios there as well. So can a car still be labeled an import if it's designed and built and sold in The United States? The reality is that there are no longer imports and domestics. Ford builds cars in Europe, Asia and North America. As does General Motors. What about Chrysler? Is it still a domestic? Daimler-Benz (a German company) owns it. Is Bentley an English car company? Volkswagen AG owns it and most of the major components come from Audi. BMW owns Rolls Royce and the quintessential English car, the MINI. I wonder if people in England think of those cars as imports or domestics?

Unions here in North America want consumers to "buy American". At the Detroit auto show in January the UAW handed out bags at the Ford booth that said "Buy American" in big letters. Needless to say, it caused confusion, as I didn't know if they meant buy the Toyota Camry that is built in Kentucky or the Ford Fusion that is built in Mexico, or the Dodge Charger that is built in Canada and uses many components from the previous generation Mercedes E-Class.

Let's face it. Consumers should pick a car based on what's best, not on the location of a company's mailbox.

Why Hybrids Require Less Maintenance
By autoblog, 23:08

Why Hybrids Require Less Maintenance
by Gregg Hall

Hybrid cars are excellent choices for helping the environment by using less fuel and more efficiency, but hybrids also require less maintenance. Hybrid vehicles are designed to require less service and are made to last longer and run better made than a conventional car.

When deciding between a hybrid and a traditional car, all factors should be considered. Hybrid vehicles are lower on emissions, use less fuel and because they have fewer parts, tend to last longer. The following are three reasons by hybrids go in for less maintenance.

The generator of a hybrid can take on multiple tasks.

The generator on a hybrid is an important aspect of the car. A hybrid uses a separate gas engine that powers the generator. The engine on most hybrids are very small, usually a ten to twenty horsepower. It is designed to run at one speed to get maximum efficiency. The generator of a hybrid is able help to take on the tasks of several other parts of the car. This reduces wear and tear on parts that often need replacement on a conventional car. Because the generator takes on several tasks, the hybrid car is able to recapture energy when coasting or breaking to recharge the battery. This reduces battery usage and the battery in a hybrid will need to be replaced less often. Because the generator handles 80 percent of the braking, the brake life is extended, as well. Also, with a hybrid, there is the reduced chance of having warped rotors due to less heat to the generator doing more of the break work.

Another advantage of having less wear on the break system from the generator is that the brake fluid life is extended because there is minimal contamination of fluid due to less heat build up. Break pads on a hybrid tend to last longer, as well.

A hybrid vehicle has less car parts to wear out than a traditional car.

Because of the way hybrids are built, they use less auto parts. Less auto parts means less vehicle wear and replacement. This type of technology also does away with a regular starter. Not having a starter makes one less component that will need to be replaced over time. With no starter, there is no way to accidentally grind the flywheel.

The battery and motor of a hybrid do not require any maintenance over the life of the car. The engine is also designed to last longer and does not require any more maintenance than a traditional car.

The air conditioning system used in a hybrid car works by electricity and non-hybrid cars use a traditional pulley driven off a gas motor. Because the car is not running the gas motor to cool the car, there is no air conditioning belt to wear out. In addition, there is no belt required for the steering. Because the steering is electric and not hydraulic, is has minimal kickback when driving over rough or uneven roads.

There is usually no valve adjustments needed in a hybrid either. Because the motor is not constantly running, it does not wear the valve system out, if present in the car. Also, injectors in a hybrid may never need to be cleaned. There is less deposit over time on the injectors, requiring less maintenance.

Hybrid cars usually come with longer warranties.

Many makers of hybrid cars such as Honda and Toyota offer longer warranties on hybrids than on traditional cars. The Honda Insight offers an eight year or 80,000 mile warranty on hybrids. This includes the batteries and the power train. The Toyota Prius offers buyers with an eight-year or 100,000 mile warranty on the battery and the hybrid system. Longer warranties on these cars make an attractive feature for buyers looking for a more efficient way of driving.

When choosing between a conventional car and a hybrid look at all of the long-term possibilities. Hybrid cars can offer drivers a longer lasting car because they are built to last longer. Hybrids are also worth considering because they require less maintenance than a regular car. They offer better fuel overall efficiency, have less parts that wear out over time and many makers of hybrids offer longer warranties.

Using Internet Classifieds To Sell Your Used Car
By autoblog, 22:08

Using Internet Classifieds To Sell Your Used Car
by Dennis Watson

Take advantage of the hundreds of free on-line classifieds to sell your used car. Many of these sites will allow you to place an ad for free for up-to 30 days. Some sites will even let you upload a picture as well.

Look for classified sites that will provide an "advance" search capability to ensure that the potential customer can search on location as well as other details. It is not very effective if someone in Canada wants to buy a car that you are selling in Texas, unless you have a hard to find classic.

There are several things your add must contain to help target a potential buyer. Make sure that you are honest about the condition of the car and that the mileage from the odometer is correct. Pricing is important as well; you can go to Kelly Blue Book to get a good estimate of how much your car is worth.

Place in your ad as much detail about the car, by doing this you will not waste your or a potential buyer's time.

A final technique to using classifieds is to link your ads together by using a site that offers photo ads as a base and use the URL option on all other sites to link back. - is a free classifieds website that offers 30 day ads, unlimited renewals, photo uploads, URL links and advance searching.
